GONDA: Police sub-inspector (SI) Wasi Khan was arrested in
Uttar Pradesh's Gonda for sexually exploiting a woman on the pretext of marriage and attempting to force her for religious conversion.
Presently posted in Gonda, the SI was suspended by the district police chief following a complaint by the woman after which an inquiry was ordered.
Based on an interim report, the case was registered against SI Wasi Khan on Thursday, after which, he was arrested.
The cop has been accused of posing as one Rinku Shukla and befriending a woman and later dumping her, said the police.
Gonda superintendent of police Akash Tomar said that allegations are that the accused and suspended cop impersonated as Rinku Shukla to entrap the victim and sexually exploited her for three years.
Tomar said that the woman has also alleged in her complaint to the police that the accused raped her on pretext of marriage.
"A deputy superintendent of police-rank officer is probing the case," said Tomar.
According to the FIR, the accused harassed the woman and forced her to change her faith.
She then met senior officials and got the FIR lodged against SI Wasi Khan for rape, dishonesty and the UP Prohibition Of Unlawful Conversion Of Religion Ordinance, 2020.
The woman told reporters, "Later, he refused to marry me and vacated his room. Even his cell phone became unreachable. One day, I saw him with another girl and then decided to meet higher officials."
